At Bright Stars we promote a high level of hygiene and encourage the children to partake in personal care. When changing nappies we wear disposable aprons and latex free gloves. Children are given a wipe and encouraged to ‘wash’ their hands whilst the nappy is being changed. Our baby changing mats are sterilised after every use.
We wash our hands before every meal and children are encouraged to wash their hands after using the bathroom, after touching animals after messy play and after playing in the garden.
We provide fantastic toilet training to our little ones. There is no such thing as ‘an accident’ at Bright Stars and children are never made to feel that they have done something wrong, it is all part of their learning and development. We use an extreme over exaggerated praise method. This involves making a big deal out of the smallest of progress and promotes a real sense of achievement and desire to progress further. We believe consistent positive reinforcements such as stickers and reward charts, encourage children to continually use the potty and adds an element of fun to what can sometimes be a frustrating time in a child’s life. In our setting we have numerous potties, a toilet training seat and a step that can be used to help younger children access the toilet. If a parent feels their child is ready to be toilet trained, they should let us know and we will be happy to help them create a plan of action.
We regularly talk about healthy and unhealthy food, dental hygiene and all aspects of personal care.
